A real conversation with a client who believed she was “pretending” and what was actually happening beneath the surface.
This episode is for the person who feels like they’re “trying to be someone they’re not,” or like stepping into the next version of themselves feels strangely heavy, emotional, or confusing.
In today’s episode, I’m sharing a real conversation from a client session, the kind that stops you in your tracks because you can feel truth move through the room.
She said:
“I feel like I’m pretending.I don’t know if I’m built for this.”
What she was experiencing is something I call The Identity Threshold:
The moment where your old self has loosened its grip…but your new self isn’t fully formed yet.
It doesn’t feel exciting. It feels disorienting.
Not because you’re failing. But because your nervous system is adjusting to new emotional territory.
Your body is still calibrated to:
Stay small
Stay agreeable
Stay unseen
Stay safe
But your deeper self is ready to:
Lead
Be witnessed
Take up space
Be expressed
This episode will help you:
Understand why self-doubt increases right before expansion
Recognize the emotional texture of identity growth
Stop mistaking unfamiliarity for “I’m not ready”
Learn what actually helps you stabilize the version of you you’re becoming
And if this feels uncannily close to where you are, if you feel like you’re in the “in-between” with no clear identity to hold on to, then this is where The Unlearning becomes powerful.
Not another course. Not more mindset talk.Actual, nervous-system-level identity rewiring.
Key Takeaway
Self-doubt is not a sign you’re wrong.It’s a sign you’re close.

We don’t talk enough about the space between versions of yourself — the part where you’ve outgrown who you were, but haven’t yet stepped into who you’re becoming.
It can feel like:
nothing makes sense anymore
your motivation disappears
the things that used to fit now feel heavy
your reactions don’t match your reality
This isn’t failure. This is the identity gap — the psychological and nervous system recalibration that happens right before personal expansion.
Your old self was built on survival:
staying accepted
avoiding conflict
being who others needed you to be
When those patterns start to fall away, your mind loses its familiar script. That’s why you may feel flat, restless, detached, or confused.
You’re not breaking down. You’re being rewritten.
And it’s uncomfortable because your system is letting go of the identity that once kept you safe. This episode explores how to move through this “in-between” without retreating back into old habits, relationships, or versions of yourself that no longer fit.
Key Insight:You don’t need to know who you’re becoming yet.Your only job is to stay in the space long enough to hear yourself again.
If you want support while you’re here, The Unlearning is designed for this exact phase: Releasing the identity you built from fear, survival, and expectation and rebuilding one based in truth, clarity, and self-recognition.
You’re not lost. You’re in the becoming of Overflow

Why does personal growth feel so exhausting — like you can see who you want to be, but your body refuses to follow?
In this episode of Overflow, Shana Kad breaks down what she calls The Identity Gap, the invisible space between the self you know and the self you live as.
You’ll learn why your nervous system resists change, how your subconscious equates “familiar” with “safe,” and what’s actually happening in your brain when you keep repeating patterns you’ve already outgrown.
Shana unpacks the real reason motivation and mindset work rarely stick and why sustainable transformation has nothing to do with trying harder. Instead, she explains how safety and identity are the missing ingredients in change, and gives you a clear, science-backed way to start rewiring from the inside out.
What You’ll Learn:
The neuroscience of identity and behavioural loops
How your body prioritizes survival over success
Why your subconscious keeps you stuck in old roles
The real process of closing the gap between knowing and becoming
How to start teaching your body that new equals safe
Plus, you’ll experience The Identity Gap Exercise — a short, guided awareness reset designed to reveal what your nervous system is trying to protect, and how to safely update those patterns.

Your body remembers what your mind tries to forget. Every tight chest, hesitant pause, or unexplained reaction isn’t overthinking — it’s emotional memory. The subconscious keeps score through sensations, not logic. Every unspoken truth, every moment you swallowed discomfort, your nervous system stored as data to protect you.
In this episode, mindset and identity coach Shana Kad breaks down the science behind emotional memory and how your subconscious uses association, not reasoning, to dictate your reactions.
You’ll discover: ✅ Why your body reacts before your mind does ✅ How familiar emotions — even painful ones — become “safe” to your brain ✅ How self-identity filters shape what you perceive as truth ✅ And a powerful Somatic Reframe exercise to begin teaching your body what safety feels like now
You’ll learn how to recognise when your emotional history is running the show, and how to reprogram those patterns through conscious awareness and emotional regulation, so your body stops reliving what your mind has already outgrown.
Because you can’t think your way out of what your body still feels but you can feel your way into a new way of thinking.

Most people don’t wake up powerful — they remember that they are.
In this episode of Overflow, Shana Kad explores the truth behind emotional regulation, subconscious programming, and self-identity, revealing why you don’t just experience reality… you create it.
Your subconscious mind is shaping 95% of your daily thoughts, emotions, and choices. But here’s the thing: it doesn’t know the difference between what’s real or imagined — it only knows what you feed it, and what you repeat. If you keep feeding it fear, overthinking, and self-doubt, that’s what becomes familiar. But when you start consciously feeding it belief, calm, and inner power, your entire reality begins to shift.
In this episode, you’ll learn:
Why your emotions are programmable and how to use them to shift your identity from the inside out.How to stop living reactively and start consciously creating your emotional state each morning. Why your brain can’t tell the difference between memory and imagination and how that gives you power over your perception. How to reprogram your subconscious mind by revisiting moments of strength and emotional truth. How to reconnect with the version of you who already knows they’re capable and live from that energy.
Exercise: The Power Recall - Shana guides you through a transformative mental exercise to revisit a powerful memory, reactivate the feeling of self-trust, and rewire your subconscious to recognise that power as your baseline — not the exception.
This isn’t about positive thinking or forcing motivation. It’s about remembering who you really are and rebuilding your emotional foundation through intention, evidence, and practice.
When you start your day by deciding how you’ll feel instead of waiting to see how you feel everything changes. You stop reacting, start responding, and create your reality from the inside out.

In this episode, mindset and identity coach Shana Kad explores what it really takes to move from who you were to who you choose to be. We’ll dive into why your subconscious mind clings to the familiar even when it hurts and how to train your system to feel safe in growth, not survival.
You’ll learn:✅ Why avoidance feels like relief but actually reinforces fear and self-doubt✅ How the subconscious mind follows the “rule of least resistance” — choosing what’s familiar over what’s better✅ The difference between control and alignment — and why real safety is internal, not circumstantial✅ A powerful self-identity exercise to rehearse your aligned self so confidence becomes your default, not your effort

In this episode, Shana Kad unpacks the psychology of perception, identity, and the subconscious “rules” that quietly script your life.

What you avoid ends up controlling you.
That email you don’t send. That decision you keep pushing aside. That conversation you keep dodging.
Avoidance feels like relief in the moment but it’s actually fear training your subconscious. Every time you run from discomfort, your brain learns to treat it like danger. And that means fear, shame, procrastination, and resentment quietly take the wheel of your life.
In this powerful episode of Overflow, mindset and identity coach Shana Kad breaks down why avoidance holds so much power, how the subconscious mind uses the rule of least resistance to keep you stuck in the familiar, and why “familiar” often feels safer than the change you crave.
You’ll also discover how your brain doesn’t react to reality, but to the meanings and stories you’ve attached to events. That pitch, that phone call, that risk, it isn’t rejection or failure, but if your subconscious has coded it that way, you’ll keep avoiding it as if it were guaranteed pain.
✨ Inside this episode, you’ll learn:
Why avoidance feels safe but actually strengthens fear, shame, and procrastination.
How your subconscious mind confuses “familiar” with “safe.”
The truth about how much ideas and meanings shape your fear responses.
A practical exercise to map out what you’re avoiding and see clearly what it’s costing you.
How to question fear, replace outdated stories with truth, and take back control of your choices.
Exercise of the week: The Avoidance Map Shana guides you through a thought-provoking practice that shows you exactly what you’re avoiding, the hidden costs it’s creating in your life, and how to rewrite the subconscious stories that keep you playing small.
Because what you avoid doesn’t disappear, it becomes the invisible script directing your life. But the moment you face it? You retrain your brain, reclaim your power, and open the door to freedom.

Most people believe identity is fixed, that you’re simply “confident” or “not confident,” “good with money” or “bad with money.” But here’s the truth: identity is not hardwired, it’s practiced.
In this episode of Overflow, Shana Kad unpacks how your subconscious shapes your identity by choosing the familiar, even when familiar keeps you small. You’ll discover why avoidance feels like relief in the moment but trains your brain to fear growth, and how every repeated thought, role, and behavior quietly becomes “who you are.”
This week’s practice: a simple but powerful self-audit to expose the habits you’ve been rehearsing and choose a new practice that rewrites your identity.
If you’ve ever felt stuck, on repeat, or defined by old labels, this episode will show you the liberating truth: you’re not broken, you’re not fixed, you’re simply practiced. And practice can change.

Why does life sometimes feel like it’s stuck on repeat? The same relationship patterns. The same career roadblocks. The same fears that never seem to go away.
It’s not because you’re broken. It’s because of something deeper: your self-identity.
In this episode of Overflow, host Shana Kad, mindset and identity coach unpacks the hidden trap of self-identity and why it silently shapes your life more than habits, goals, or even vision boards ever could.
Your subconscious mind isn’t wired to make you happy, it’s wired to keep you safe. And “safe” often just means familiar. That’s why you keep attracting the same cycles: your brain is clinging to an old story of who you are.
✨ Inside this episode you’ll learn:
Why your subconscious pulls you back into old patterns, even when you want change
How to identify the hidden identity scripts running your relationships, career, and confidence
A powerful self-reflection exercise to uncover your deepest limiting belief
How to question the origin of that belief (is it really yours, or someone else’s?)
How to find real evidence in your own life that contradicts the old story
A simple process to rewrite your identity so you can finally break free
This isn’t about positive thinking or fluffy affirmations. It’s about shifting the blueprint your subconscious is working from and once you do, everything in your external world begins to shift too.
